Tulip's Story
We rescued Tulip in early 2006. She was blind in one eye and had suffered an injury to her right ear. We didn't know any history on her and didn't even know her actual age. Our granddaughter fell in love with her so we took her home. Tulip was a faithful companion and we all grew to love her very much. After about 3 years, Tulip began to lose her teeth and had a hard time chewing her food. She was losing weight and soon after, also developed painful arthritis in her left hind leg and hip.
Then, that dreadful day came when we had to make the decision to end her suffering. The vet told us Tulip was over 30 years old. We knew that we had given her some wonderful, loving last years. It is always a hard thing to do to let an animal go. But together, we prayed THE HORSE'S PRAYER and let her go. Tulip is now at the RAINBOW BRIDGE waiting until we meet again.
So many people have felt the way we feel about Tulip. And yet, for all the thousands of horse owners who so dearly love their horses, there are many horses that go unwanted and suffer neglect and painful hunger. Together, as a community, we can all help. We can become a huge network. A network of valuable resources for all horse people...for all horses. That is why Hearts 4 Horses was started.
So we welcome you to Hearts4Horses. Please feel free to look around or stop by Hearts 4 Horses Forums and introduce yourself. We are glad you are visiting. This site is to become "everyone's site", the entire "horse community" can share, learn and be a part of each other's happiness, and can offer support in times of sadness. Again, we WELCOME YOU and THANK YOU for making this website part of your day...
"Our Vision is to Help Create a Community Where Every Horse is in the Care of a Responsible Owner."

We are a non-profit animal rescue based in SW Virginia. With the tough economy etc our donations are nearly non-existent which leaves our rescue in a constant state of no operating money with many many animals (primarily horses) relying on our resources to keep them healthy and happy. I'm sure many other rescues face the same issues. We have 4 special horses that desperately need adoptive homes before this fall as our funds are out and we are worried about winter donations! Their adoption fees have been waived though we ask for a donation to help our rescue efforts and support the others still here.
These 4 really need a 2nd chance in a good home! 2 are companion only (JC & Mikey), 1 is ready to start under saddle and has a bright future as a trail horse (Brandi) and the other is a medium pony with trail potential too (Rudy).
Our website is www.rugbycreekanimalrescue.org if you would like to look us up. We have many horses here needing homes and desperately need sponsors for some of the residents.

Rudy stands 13.2 hh and 15 yrs old. He has been a trail riding pony in his past but has had a little time off and is a tad rusty so needs a little tune up. He is UTD, just had teeth floated and front shoes - healthy and ready to hit the road. Rudy could be a great youth pony with a little refresher. At this time he would do best with an intermediate rider (please no beginners inquire!). He doesn't have any known vices. This guy is very personal and friendly, likes attention and treats. He ties and loads, easy to catch. I think that with some consistancy and time back in the saddle he will be a great trail pony again! Also believe this cute gelding would be a good gaming pony. While he is awaiting his new home we will continue to work with him on refreshment training.
Adoption Fee: $n/a - please make a donation to help cover his rescue costs.

Brandi is a sweet girl and is very smart as well! She is a 15 hh, 5 y/o Quarter Horse mare. Brandi had a rough beginning with untrustworthy people but she is still trying to see the good in people. She is pasture friendly, leads well, respectful on the ground, loads (with a little patience) etc. She likes attention and to be groomed. Her worst fear is in knowing that the farrier brings death (or so she believes) and will require lots of patience and learning to overcome this fear.
Brandi is a very nice mover and has potential as a trail horse! She is well built and very pretty.
We can arrange to include 30 days of professional natural horsemanship training with Jim Frazier in her adoption for a fee. Please meet the following requirements before sending in an application to adopt Brandi.
- You must be over 18 to inquire
- You must have experience with green horses or horses with trust issues
- You must have some knowledge of natural horsemanship techniques or be willing to learn as this is the method she will require to be handled/trained.
Adoption Fee: $n/a - please make a donation to help cover her rescue costs.

This adorably cute POA mare is seeking a forever home as a companion...won't you offer this sweet girl a spot in your pasture? She gets along well with everyone, is a very easy keeper, good with vet, farrier, loading, tying etc. She is in her late teens but in excellent health - did we mention an easy keeper? She is companion only due to an old knee injury - but it doesn't require any maintenance and she is very comfortable and pasture sound.
Adoption Fee: $n/a - please make a donation.

This beautiful big girl is an OTT Thoroughbred (years ago). She stands 16.2 hh and is in her early 20's. In great health and only requires senior feed in the winter season. She gets along well with others and is good for farrier, vet, loading, tying etc. She is seeking a forever home to retire and live out her years as a companion. Her history as a racer was slow - winning about $11k so she retired sound from the track and went on to a successful career in eventing - where again she retired sound... had a few nice sporthorse foals and then again was retired from breeding.......don't you think this girls deserves a real retirement!?!
